Napoli is widely known for its fireworks at New Year but thats only the start of this cities exploits. She is also famous for fresh fish, of which there is a wide range, constant availability and a unmatched appreciation by her enjoyers. In the final few days of December the bustling fish market in Napoli city centre is a myriad of senses and smells as millions of Neapolitans stock up for a vibrant fishlicious celebration!. I was among the many fish foragers out to find the best catch for the feast.  

This means plenty of variety; dried, fried, bbq’ed, shelled, steamed, baked (and you name it!) with all the delicious accompaniments that 'Frutti del Mare' (fruits of the sea) has to offer.

Via San Gregorio Armeno is known as the street of Nativity workshops because it's lined with artisan workshops that make statuettes and scenery for the famous Neopalitan nativity scenes or presepi. Small storefronts selling nativity pieces and tourist items spill out onto the street while the best pieces are kept inside the tiny shops. It's a fascinating street even if you don't want to buy anything or aren't really interested in nativities.

About halfway up the street is the Church of San Gregorio Armeno. If you're there on a Tuesday morning, stop in to see the miracle of the liquefying blood being performed (at time of writing, every Tuesday at 9:30 and 10:30).
